He is worshipped as the eighth avatar of the god Vishnu and also as the supreme God in his own right. He is the god of compassion, tenderness, love and is one of the most popular and widely revered among Indian divinities.

The accounts and stories of Krishna’s life are commonly named as Krishna Leela. He is a focal character in the Mahabharata, the Bhagavata Purana and the Bhagavad Gita, and is referenced in numerous Hindu philosophical, religious, and fanciful texts.[14] They depict him in different points of view: a divine being youngster, a comedian, a model darling, a perfect saint, and as the all inclusive incomparable being.[15] His iconography mirrors these legends, and shows him in various phases of his life, for example, a newborn child eating spread, a little fellow playing a woodwind, a young man with his sweetheart Radha or encompassed by ladies lovers, or a benevolent charioteer offering direction to Arjuna.
